This acrylic painting by Karlene Voepel, "Wedding Song", was recently chosen for the Sedona Arts Center's Juried Members Show, open daily 10 am to 5 pm in Uptown Sedona. The show runs through April 2, 2013
Friends asked, "Just what is a juried show?" In this electronic world, the artist submits photos of his/her artwork through the internet in a jpeg format to the committee (jury). The jury views the work in this form and chooses who will be in the show and the prizes to be awarded. The artist is then notified by mail or email if accepted or rejected. (This can be a low blow!) The chosen artists bring the real artwork to the art center or gallery. In the old days artists brought in the actual artwork to be judged by the jury or panel. The rejected work was then picked up and the chosen work was hung in the show. The new method is easier, but it is possible sometimes that the actual work does not look as good as the photo. In that case the piece may be refused when brought in to be displayed.
