the story of mica

Long, long ago Changing Woman had a beautiful star which she wanted to take to the top of the mountain.

"Can someone help me carry this star to the top of the mountain?" she cried. Coyote, being the kind of guy he was, volunteered, "I will, I will!" So Changing Woman put the star in a soft leather pouch and carefully tied it around Coyote's neck.

"Huff, puff . . ." It was a hard, steep climb for Coyote up the mountain. The star was so heavy around his neck. He tugged at the leather pouch; he felt like he was choking!

"Huff, puff . . . " Higher he climbed. He was so tired: he pulled at the leather pouch. It was so heavy! "Huff, puff . . " he pulled at the heavy pouch.

By the time he reached the mountain top, the bag was so weak from his tugging that it ripped open and "CRASH ! ! ! " The star fell out and shattered all over the ground forming this sparkling mica, and some of the star shattered into the sky, creating all the little stars you see at night.
