Working in clay and paint make Karlene Koch Voepel a very versatile artist. To watercolors, her first love, she has added acrylics, gouache and pastels. In gouache (opaque watercolor), Karlene's work is more flat and strong in design. In acrylics, Karlene uses larger brushes, breaks out and becomes almost expressionistic.
First comes the inspiration, a particularly compelling face or figure. Then, a strong and unique composition. Although classicly trained, Karlene Voepel is very creative, not satisfied with a traditional approach. Her portrait subjects come to life with human expression and lively brush strokes.
Look for the brightly colored outlines and straight-forward approach and you will discover Karlene's style. |
